It was revealed on September 22 that Barack Obama’s hand-picked ISIS Czar, disgraced Gen. John Allen, will be leaving his post in the coming weeks. The information was transmitted to the Bloomberg View from four separate administration officials who said that the White House was not ready to announce Allen’s resignation officially but that the twice disgraced General would be stepping down in early November.
Karin Von Hippel, Allen’s Chief Of Staff, will also be resigning according to reports.
ISIS Czar Allen’s reputation has been marred by controversy and scandal as well as an attempt to push the United States into further direct military involvement in Syria, particularly against the one fighting force that actually opposed ISIS – i.e. the Syrian government.
After assuming command of the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, Allen was swept up in the David Petreaus/Paul Broadwell scandal where his own communications with Jill Kelley, a Lebanese-American socialite who possibly had connections to rival factions of the intelligence community networks. Allen “resigned” from his command and retired from the military after the scandal but he was brought back by Obama not even a year later when he was named as the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition Against ISIL, also known as Obama’s ISIS Czar.
According to Bloomberg View,
U.S. officials familiar with Allen's decision say he has been frustrated with White House micromanagement of the war and its failure to provide adequate resources to the fight. He unsuccessfully tried to convince the administration to allow U.S. tactical air control teams to deploy on the ground to help pick targets for air strikes in Iraq. Allen also tried several times to convince the White House to agree to Turkish demands for a civilian protection zone in Syria, to no avail. Nonetheless, administration officials stress that Allen's decision to leave his post was motivated mainly by the health of his wife, who suffers from an auto-immune disorder.
However, Allen’s resignation comes at a very convenient time as the Four Star General is being implicated in the massaging of intelligence reports and even the bullying of intelligence analysts who may have produced reports contrary to Allen’s war agenda. Although Allen was not named specifically, “senior-level leaders, including the Director of Intelligence and his deputy in CENTCOM,” were mentioned. As “ISIS Czar” Allen was no doubt a member of this “inner circle” of high-level officials connected to the military’s relationship to ISIS and the public perception of the “anti-ISIS” military campaign. The question of Allen’s involvement was raised at the State Department’s Daily Press Briefing on August 27, 2015 where Spokesman John Kirby was forced to cut off the reporter’s question with groveling admiration in defense of Allen.
In short, when Allen, the Pentagon, the intelligence community and the White House needed to present the “war against ISIS” as necessary to fight the unbeatable supermen of ISIS, the reports reflected the need to engage ISIS militarily. Once military action began, the reports were then used to represent the U.S. military action of bombing Syrian civilian infrastructure as a success. The manipulation of the intelligence reports were simply an exercising and manipulating the perceptions of the general public and members of congress so bewildered by their surroundings they are unable to make coherent decisions.
Indeed, Allen had long pushed for greater U.S. military involvement in Syria, even negotiating with Turkey the creation of the recent “ISIL-Free Zone,” a “No-Fly Zone” by another name. Allen’s veiled support for ISIS as a result of his crusade against the Syrian government, his support of “moderate rebels” (aka ISIS), and coordination with countries also supporting terrorists is partly responsible for spawning the #FireAllen4ISIS campaign that began gaining steam on Twitter.
The initiators of that campaign – Webster Griffin Tarpley, the Tax Wall Street Party, and the United Front Against Austerity saw Allen as one of the main culprits behind the US pro-ISIS stance and, in particular, one of the most aggressive forces operating inside the American government, even suggesting that the creation of the “ISIL-Free Zone” was, in fact, a stealth coup by Allen and the “Petreaus clique” against Obama.
Regardless of the potential back and forth between members of the America “deep state,” Allen is now stepping down from his official position. This does not mean, however, that the Anglo-American plot to destroy the secular government of Bashar al-Assad is over or even that it is losing steam. After all, members of the intelligence community often maintain their power even after leaving their official government posts. This development simply means that one operative of the assault against the Syrian people is retiring from his official capacity. While it is not, by any means, a sign that the war on Syria is ending, it is a small positive step in the right direction. We can only hope this small step is followed by a stampede.
